The MARQUEE CLUB March 1966 Orig Gig Flyer
£150.00
An original Marquee Club (London) March 1966 Programme two sided Flyer Handbill advertising the listings schedule for the Marquee Club, Wardour Street that month. The handbills were available to anybody who went to the club from either the ticket desk or the flyer holder attached to the wall by the door. 1 side is the daily listings, the other side are articles about other forthcoming events and news. 11 inch x 8.5 inch. Pink Floyd.
Although not listed, they played on 13th March 1966. The show was one of a series of shows put on by the promoter Bernard Stollman. a New Yorker who’d come to England and begun a casual Sunday afternoon gathering of musicians, poets and artists at the Marquee Club, which he called Spontaneous Underground. So casual indeed, that the Marquee did not think it important enough to include it in its regular monthly gig listings advert. It was the first of twelve Sunday nights featuring Pink Floyd at the club. The event was advertised elsewhere as including “Poets, pop singers, hoods, Americans, homosexuals, 20 clowns, jazz musicians, one murderer, sculptors, politicians and some girls who defy description”. The 27th of March is listed as ‘to be announced’. Although Pink Floyd didn’t play this second day, it was also a Spontaneous Underground event. As previously mentioned, this was the first of a series of casual Spontaneous Underground events and was probably only booked because The Marquee would have been closed that day – as the listing suggests. These flyers would have gone to the printers at the beginning of February which is likely before the event was booked. Also listed this month: David Bowie and The Buzz / Irma Thomas / The Yardbirds / The Action / The Clayton Squares / Felder’s Orioles / The Small Faces / Bo Street Runners / Jimmy Cliff / Graham Bond Organisation / Dick Morrissey / Spencer Davis Group.
